Join us for the adventure of a lifetime, rafting the turquoise blue glacial waters of the Upper Kenai River, and bushwhacking approximately 1/2 mile through the woods and brush to a remote streambed rich with gold.  Your guide will instruct you in identifying high potential gravel ore, excavating the ore (that's a fancy way of digging and loosing the ore from the ground, running it through a classifier, and then into a bucket). You will learn to utilize the current of the stream to run the classified ore through a sluice, and last learn how to pan the concentrates, taking home discovered gold in a vial.  This is a time-tested process used to this day by prospectors obsessed with gold fever.  Soak in the surrounding magestic beauty and be on the lookout for bald eagles, spawning salmon, bear, moose, merganser, porcupine and other critters.  After a few hours prospecting and panning, we will bushwhack back to the drop off point, reboard rafts, then continue a scenic float through the Kenai Wildlife Refuge, affording more wildlife viewing and, in season, the opportunity to witness up close world-renowned Alaskan "combat fishing" at the confluence of the Russian and the Kenai Rivers.

Our backcountry adventure begins bright and early, at 8 a.m.  Everything you need, including a U.S. Coast Guard approved personal flotation device, a guide, sluice, pan, classifier, vial for your gold, as well as boots and rain gear, are provided.  Prospecting equipment awaits you at the streambed.  If you have your own hip waders, dry waders, and rain gear, feel free to wear those.  You will be assisted on and off the raft with the help of an experienced and licensed river guide.  We prospect an area permitted for my day use guests through the  United States Forest Service.

* $399/person

* Approximate Trip Time: 8 to 8.5 hours (3 hours floating, 5 hours hiking and prospecting)
